How is this different from a standard Sri Lanka gem tour?
Unlike a fixed group tour, each experience is privately hosted for one or two guests and shaped around your interests, pace and what is genuinely happening within the gemstone trade.
Do I need any previous gemstone knowledge?
Not at all. Whether you’re completely new to gemstones or starting to work within the jewellery industry, every experience is tailored to your level of knowledge and interests.
Where in Sri Lanka do the experiences take place?
I’m based in Aluthgama, near Beruwala and Bentota. Experiences explore Beruwala’s gemstone trade, with visits further afield, including Ratnapura, Colombo, Gintota and Elehara, arranged according to your chosen experience, interests and local conditions. Mine visits depend on activity, weather and permission.
Are the experiences private?
Yes. Every experience is private and tailored for individuals or couples, allowing complete flexibility around your interests, learning objectives and pace.
Can we visit gemstone mines?
Where possible, yes. Mine visits depend on factors such as weather, mining activity, local availability and access permissions. Because every experience is bespoke, opportunities are discussed when planning your itinerary.
Can I buy gemstones during the experience?
Yes, if you wish. There is absolutely no obligation to buy. If you do decide to purchase gemstones, I’ll help you understand quality, ask the right questions and buy with greater confidence. If buying is the main purpose of your visit, my private buying support in Sri Lanka may be the more suitable service.
What’s included?
Every experience includes personal hosting, independent gemmological guidance and a Personalised Experience Plan. Specific visits and activities depend on your interests, local access and conditions. Full inclusions and practical arrangements are provided in the experience brochure.
How much does it cost?
The 1-day Inside the Gem Trade experience is £595 for one guest. The 3-day Origin Experience starts at £1,950, the 5-day Immersion Experience at £2,950, and the 7-day Signature Experience at £3,950.
A second guest costs an additional £150, £500, £700 or £900 respectively. Your total price will be confirmed before you book.
Can I stay with you during my visit?
Where availability permits, yes. Guests may be invited to stay with me at my Sri Lankan residence at no additional charge as my personal guests. Staying with me is completely optional. Practical accommodation details are provided privately as part of your booking arrangements.
When is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?
I host private gemstone experiences from November 2026 to early April 2027. November and December are well suited to markets, workshops, private trader meetings and exploring Sri Lanka’s gemstone culture. January to April generally offers drier conditions for field activities. Mine access always depends on weather, activity and local permission, so each experience is planned around the best opportunities available during your stay.
How do I book?
Every experience begins with a conversation. We’ll discuss your interests, preferred dates and what you hope to gain from your time in Sri Lanka. If the experience feels right for you, I’ll send you the booking information and next steps.
A 30% initial booking payment secures your dates, with the remaining balance due eight weeks before arrival.
Why isn’t there a fixed itinerary?
Because the gemstone trade doesn’t operate to a timetable. Markets change daily, miners move between sites and the most valuable opportunities often arise through trusted relationships and local knowledge. Rather than following a rigid schedule, every experience is designed to make the most of what’s happening during your visit.
