This Sri Lanka gemstone tour is for serious enthusiasts, who want to learn more about the gem trade in Sri Lanka. Whether you are planning to enter the trade, or just someone who loves collecting gemstones, this trip is for you.
On this tour, you will get a lot of hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn from expert tutors, including Kim Rix, gemmologist and author of Gemstone Detective "Buying Gemstones & Jewellery in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is home to some of the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world. Blue Sapphire is the National Gemstone of Sri Lanka. The gem industry on this island has been in existence for over 2500 years, making it a part of the country's history.
Our gemstone tour will include visits to the gem markets, gem museum, 3 or 4 gem mining visits, witnessing cutting & polishing, a gem showroom and much more. You are promised a gemmological extravaganza!
One of the best aspects of a gemstone tour is the chance to go mining. Our tour takes you off the beaten track where you can explore mines, sift through alluvial deposits, and find your own gemstones. This hands-on experience is not only educational but also incredibly rewarding.
We will be led by experienced gemmologists and local experts. They will guide you through the intricate process of gemstone mining and processing, teaching you how to identify different types of gemstones and understand their unique characteristics.
