How much do you know about buying jewellery in India?
So far, my travels and research in the name of the Gemstone Detective have taken me to Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Australia. India is next on the calendar! I will fly to India on November 12th, 2018. The book, Buying Gemstones & Jewellery in India will officially be published on 14th May, 2019.
Would you recognise the difference between a real gemstone and a piece of cheap fakery? The aim of this series is to help tourists, travellers and holiday makers to better understand what they are looking at. I want to help educate people so that they can be sure, be smart and buy gemstones and jewellery in a foreign country with confidence. It’s a tricky world out there – and the gem trade in India is no exception!
When I go to India, I will visit four different tourist destinations – Goa, Golconda, Kashmir and Jaipur. I will be looking to make some more great contacts. I’m aiming to get a really detailed insight into the Indian gemstone and jewellery trade, so I will be looking to speak with miners, jewellers, appraisers and valuers… anyone who lives and works in the gem trade. Please get in touch now so we can have a chat!
I’d even like to hear from anyone who has bought a gemstone or piece of jewellery in India. What did you buy? Where did you buy it? How was your experience? Would you recommend it to another fellow traveller? I would really love to hear your story, so please drop me a line and get in touch.
And for those who aren’t planning a holiday to any of the Gemstone Detective holiday destinations (yet!) but are intrigued by the different countries and their gemstones — I have written a book called ‘Buying Gemstones and Jewellery Worldwide’ with you in mind. This will be published on 22nd January 2019, along with the next two books in the series, which focus on Thailand and Australia.
See you in India!
Kim Rix
